About the Farm: Mattawoman Creek Farms is a 15 acre clam aquaculture farm and 30 acre certified organic vegetable farm that is owned and operated by Rick and Janice Felker. Located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia near Eastville, and warmed by the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Mattawoman Creek Farms enjoys a year-round growing season. The clam aquaculture portion of the farm raises approximately 15 million clams annually in the waters of Mattawoman Creek.
Work Description: The primary focus of this position centers on the farm’s clam aquaculture operation, including planting, harvesting, and clam bed maintenance. On-the-job training will be provided. When not performing aquaculture work, this person will assist in the farm’s organic vegetable operation including, harvesting, planting, packing, and vegetable bed maintenance.
Qualifications: We seek candidates who have a strong work ethic, desire to do physical work outdoors daily (must be able to lift at least 50 pounds) and are honest and diligent. Candidates should have an interest in human and environmental health, a positive outlook, the ability to work with others, and a commitment to excellence.
Hours/Pay: This is a full-time position. Mattawoman Creek Farms employees receive a fair wage and get paid on a weekly basis. We work year-round, generally Mondays through Fridays. Other benefits include learning about organic farming and the USDA organic program from experienced organic farmers and frequent free veggies whenever extra is available. Mattawoman Creek Farms is a drug and tobacco free workplace.
