I am helping lead a search for a farm manager for an incredible farm/land-holding on the border of the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, about 1 hour from Washington, D.C. The owners are seeking a true visionary who combines outstanding farm management and land management skills and expertise with the ability to communicate the farm’s vision and impact in a larger policy and social change context. They are currently operating an organic, regenerative vegetable operation that is well known in the DC area for supplying local restaurants and farmers markets. They are also restoring land with an eye to creating long term sustainable habitat for mammals, amphibians, birds, and all pollinators. In this they have already partnered with the Smithsonian and some key biodiversity experts. They also offer food to the local food bank and work to be good community members. If you have any farmers in your network who might be suitable or interested, please pass this job notice along to them.
The farm is breathtaking. There is an orchard, streams, forests, and open meadows with excellent existing infrastructure and beautiful vistas.
The owners are looking for someone or a couple to make a long-term commitment to co-creating the best regenerative operation possible and linking up with other agricultural and land restoration model projects around the world. The pay is competitive and a spacious farm home is part of the package. There is separate housing for on-farm staff and interns.
