The Thomas Jefferson Foundation in Charlottesville, Virginia has two FT positions available in 2020, one at its Monticello Center for Food & Farming and the other at its Center for Historic Plants. Both of these positions are based at Jefferson’s Tufton Farm, located 2 miles down the parkway from Monticello. Positions open for application until January 19th, 2020.

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation has an exciting opportunity for a vegetable farmer to join our team in launching Monticello’s Center for Food & Farming in Charlottesville, Virginia. Last year was our inaugural growing season and we produced nearly 5,000 lbs. of vegetables on 1-acre for our Farm Table Café and Monticello Farm & Garden value-added product line. Our Farm Associate will oversee production of fresh vegetables, including both heirlooms and modern cultivars, primarily to meet demand for our farm-to-table restaurant, which strives to highlight the epicurean and horticultural contributions of Monticello’s enslaved African Americans and U.S. Founding Father Thomas Jefferson. The Farm Associate will work with the Manager of Farm and Nursery Operations to execute market garden production of between 1-2 acres, utilizing sustainable growing techniques to ensure successive harvests through the majority of the growing season.
