my name is Ian Newell. am looking for someone with some hands-on farming and managing experience who interested in running and Maintaining a 4.3-acre turn-key farm (about 2+ acres of growing space) formally know as Victory Farms, less than 5 min outside Richmond city limits in Varina VA. (Please see the following Zillow listing made by the previous farmer https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/7001-Osborne-Tpke-Henrico-VA-23231/64500779_zpid/?mmlb=g,0 ) As mentioned this is a turn-key farm – two greenhouses (96′ x 20′ and 14 x 76′) , 3000 sf pole barn, two tractors and implements, walk-in coolers, prep area, water lines run for irrigation over the entire growing area, refer truck, an old farmhouse that is being renovated, fertigation lines that feed into the fields, hand tools, RPCs, enough landscape tarp to cover two acres, enough heavyweight thermal blanket to cover an acre, access to power tools, and more – Just about everything needed to get the farm off the ground. There is even a tiny house being built out at the back for potential farmer’s residences.
I am interested in starting a CSA Business where the sales will function out of my restaurant, Goatocado, which is in the middle of the Fan Districted of Richmond about 12 – 15 minutes from the farm. The farmer will be in charge of farming the land and managing, hiring, and paying any additional help that is required out of their percentage of CSA sales. I will handle the distribution, sales, logistics, and marketing, as well as pay for the infrastructure of the farm out of my percentage of the CSA sales. my goal is to hit at least 100k in sales through the CSA within the first year or two.
I am open to other ideas as well. my goal is to set this up where the expenses of the farm are being covered and that the farmer and those involved are making money. In return, I expect that the farm be well maintained and tools and tractors kept orderly as the farm will also be hopefully be functioning as an event space starting next year. The previous farmer Charlie Collins, has a great deal of experience at starting, maintaining, and running farms and is happy to aid and give advice and or hands-on help where needed.
