FARM BACKGROUND
Celeste Farms is a 4.3-acre, regenerative vegetable farm located in Varina VA, just 10 minutes away from downtown Richmond. We grow on fixed 30” raised beds pulling inspiration from farmers such as Conor Crickmore of Never Sink Farms and Curtis Stone. We are in the process of establishing long-term meadows on the property creating not only habitats for butterflies, pollinators, and other wildlife but also a beautiful landscape. In addition, we have a fairly sizeable compost program, utilizing weekly food scrap drop-offs from N.O.P.E RVA, a local compost service, and True Timber, bringing us wood chips.
We currently produce vegetables for our Farm Membership Program, greens for Goatocado – a fast-casual restaurant in Richmond, wholesale to the local health food grocer, Ellwood Thompson’s, and feed multifarm CSAs such as Leafy Lanes. We also donate extra produce to our friends at RVA Community Fridge, a nonprofit working towards food sovereignty.
In the spring of 2023, we are launching an onsite dinner series, working with some of Richmond’s top chefs, providing the community with a unique and meaningful farm-to-table experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are hiring both part-time (16 + hours a week) and full-time (40 – 50 hours) farm hands who are hard-working, diligent individuals interested in helping us maintain and aid in improving our farm.
Have a passionate interest in farming as a career
Have a passionate interest in farming as a means to encourage soil, individual, and community health
Have a passionate desire to learn the ins and outs of diversified, small-scale naturally grown vegetable production
Must be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, should be in fit physical condition
Must be able to walk, stand, squat, and kneel for extended periods
Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather
Good communication and listening skills, able to follow instructions when given
Openness to receiving and sharing constructive criticism
Understands the importance of following systems and working efficiently
Attention to detail
Works well independently and with others. Can maintain focus and work efficiently while working solo or with others
