NRCS has introduced a new tool, the Conservation Assessment and Ranking Tool, or CART, to streamline the data collection, planning, and application processes farmers go through to enroll in federal conservation programs. The tool helps NRCS field staff and program applicants to assess resource condition, identify site-specific conservation needs, and select the best NRCS programs and practices to meet the applicants’ conservation goals and financial and technical assistance needs.. A new Farmer’s Guide to CART helps producers better understand the new tool and process.
