Sassafras Farm in Athens _County Ohio is seeking a part-time, live in farm assistant.
Sassafras Farm, owned by Ed Perkins and Amy Abercrombie, is 12 miles from Athens, home of Ohio University. We grow about two acres of vegetables, herbs and berries and have been selling our produce at the Athens Farmers Market and at area food businesses for almost 40 years.
We use organic methods but are not certified Organic. Crops are grown in hand worked raised beds and tractor worked fields. We have several small hoop houses for growing winter greens and sell at the farmers market all winter.
The assistant’s work includes planting, weeding, harvesting, mulching, making hay, making compost, hauling manure and cutting and splitting fire wood. Our assistant must be capable of doing physically demanding work.
We have a two bedroom cottage on the farm for our assistant to live in. Rent is 8 hours work a week with additional hours at a beginning of $12/hour totaling up to 24 hours a week depending on the workload.
