Sassafras Farm in Athens County Ohio is seeking a part-time, live in farm assistant.

Sassafras Farm is located in SE Ohio, 12 miles from Athens, home of Ohio University.   We grow about two acres of vegetables, herbs and berries  and have been selling our produce at the Athens Farmers Market and at area food businesses for almost 40 years.

We use organic methods and strive for more sustainability.  Crops are grown in hand worked raised beds and tractor worked fields.  We have several small hoop houses for growing winter greens and sell at the farmers market all winter.

The assistant’s work includes preparing beds, planting, weeding, harvesting, making hay,  making compost, hauling manure and  cutting and splitting fire wood.  The work is physically demanding.  We have a two bedroom cottage on the farm for our assistant to live in.  Beginning pay is $12/hour for up to 24 hours a week depending on the workload.

We need someone who will stay at least a full year.  But we are hoping to find a person ready to settle down to a farming career  and open to a long term commitment to Sassafras Farm.  The farm has the potential for growth with the right person.

The position is open as of April 1st.  Send your personal and resume information to Ed Perkins:  sassafras2233@earthlink.net
